Mr. Gavin Smith - Director of Bands

Gavin Smith is the Director of Bands at Reedy High School. As the Director of Bands he oversees the entire band program at Reedy High School. Mr. Smith is the director of the Marching Band and the Wind Ensemble. With the marching band, Mr. Smith is the coordinator of instruction and design of the marching production. The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert ensemble of Reedy High School. This ensemble is a collection of the finest musicians on campus who strive to perform quality literature at the highest level.

Prior to Reedy High School, Gavin Smith was the Acting Director of Bands and Director of the Big Red Marching Machine at Illinois State University from 2015-2017. Mr. Smith directed the Big Red Marching Machine; arranging, drill design, and overseeing the visual components. Along with marching band, Mr. Smith directed the Symphonic Winds Concert Band while overseeing the ISU Band Department.

Prior to Illinois State University, Gavin Smith was the Assistant Director of Bands and Lecturer in Teacher Education at Vanderbilt University where he directed the Spirit of Gold Marching Band and taught Music Education courses while administrating the graduate programs in Music Education through the Peabody College of Education. 

Mr. Smith received his Bachelors of Music Education from Texas Tech University.  In addition to his college experiences, he marched lead soprano for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Smith taught band and general music in Holliday, TX previous to receiving his Masters in Music Education with emphasis in Conducting from Kansas State University where he served as a Graduate Assistant with the KSU Bands. Mr. Smith has currently completed all course work for a Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of Mississippi, currently completing his dissertation focusing on practice techniques utilized in secondary ensemble settings.
