Band Volunteers

A high school band the size of ours does not plan, operate and move itself.  It takes a small army of volunteers who are willing to dedicate their time and expertise in service to the band.  It is time well spent.  You will get to meet and work with a great group of parents, make new contacts and support a fantastic group of hard-working young men and women.

The Reedy Band Booster Club is always looking for volunteers to help out in the following areas:

Chaperones – Chaperones will be with the band the duration of a game or competition.  You will distribute uniforms before games and collect them afterwards.  You will need to arrive approximately an hour before the bus leaves.  Chaperones assist the students and directors with any tasks they need.  You will make sure the group has what they need when they need it including handing out plumes.  Chaperones will do a lot of walking and will need to ride the bus to events.

Concession Stand Workers – The money makers for the band!  RHS band has 4 games where we will need to staff the concession stand for the home side of the stadium.  You will need to arrive early to get the stand set up and ready to sell items.  Depending on which stadium it could be an hour and a half to 30 minutes early.  You will be serving food and drinks, handling money, restocking inventory, cleaning the stand after the game and other food related activities.  There will be very little food preparation at most venues.  We will need 20-40 concession stand workers depending on which stadium.  Our band makes $$$ when we work in the concession stand so it is a great way to help the band! If you will be volunteering to work the concession stand at the football games, you will need to apply for a Texas Food Handler Certificate. This certificate is good for 2 years.

Photographers -  Photographers capture the essence of the event!  You provide your own equipment and take all the photos you want of our band, guard and all that happens from the time you look through your lens until the event is over.  We have a Smugmug account where you can upload your photos for our band family to see.  The students LOVE looking at all these photos.  If anyone has video skills it would be great to have some inspirational videos using these photos.

Pit Crew – These are the movers and shakers!  They will load the trailer with all the front ensemble and percussion equipment as well as large instruments.  They will be the keepers of this trailer and it will become one of their best friends.  At games the pit crew unloads the trailer, helps get equipment to the field, takes equipment onto the field and takes it off after the performance and back to the trailer.

Pre-Game Meals – The group all the kids LOVE!  You will need to arrive around an hour before the bus leaves and serve a meal to the students.  There might be some prep from time to time.  Most meals will be easy to serve and eat.  Food crew will need to clean up after students eat, not to be confused with cleaning up after the kids!

We also have needs for volunteers to help with uniforms and spirit wear.  Uniform volunteers will assist in fitting students for uniforms, altering uniforms as needed (usually no sewing required), pressing uniforms if needed, making sure everyone has all their uniform parts,
